Our Practice
The Design Alliance amalgamates the wealth of design and building experience of each of its Principals and staff. We have a broad range of experience across many sectors of the construction industry both in Australia and overseas.
The practice was formed in 2000 with the merger of the architectural practices of Roger Brayshaw in Melbourne and Richard Groves in Brisbane to provide a boutique design resource that works throughout Australia and with our associated firms in Asia.
We are at the forefront of the latest design and construction trends, and apply this knowledge into each project we undertake.
It is our mission, using our comprehensive briefing system, to translate our client's project vision into built reality.
The Built Environment
The built environment makes a major contribution to Carbon emissions, and we regard our role as architects as crucial in assisting our clients help the environment. Each project provides an opportunity to reduce energy and water consumption, minimise waste and optimise lifecycle benefits by using environmentally sustainable materials and construction techniques.
We use independent consultants to undertake energy audits and provide advice for Green Building Council Greenstar design programmes.
Roger Brayshaw B. Arch (Hons) Registered Architect Victoria
Roger is committed to designing buildings and public domains that are interesting, responsive to the environment and stimulating to the user.
Roger worked initially with Graham Gunn Architect in Melbourne for 5 years from 1988 before joining the Mirvac Group as Melbourne office Manager in 1992.
He moved to establish Brayshaw Architects in 1995 and then co-founded the Design Alliance with Richard Groves in 2000.
He has over 20 years experience in designing residential and commercial buildings and is recognised as one of the leaders of multi unit design in Melbourne. His experience and commitment to design ensure outstanding outcomes for his clients.
Richard Groves B. Arch (Hons) FRAIA Registered Architect Queensland
Richard has over 20 years of professional experience in Australia, Asia and Europe. Prior to co founding the Design Alliance, Richard was a senior associate at Hassell Architects Brisbane, where he worked on a number of award winning projects, including Housing, Resorts, Marinas , Hospitality and Entertainment facilities and Commercial and Industrial buildings.
He also has worked on a number of award winning heritage / refurbishment project including Prudential Headquarters London, and the Empire Theatre Toowoomba.. Prior to that, he worked with DBI International on South Bank Parklands Master plan and Dockside Apartments in Brisbane, and with Bligh Voller on the Queensland Conservatorium and Brisbane International Airport.
Richard’s specialty is design and design management, and he values creating high quality architectural, landscape and interior design in a multi discipline collaborative environment.
Professionally, Richard has served on Boards of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and the Property Council of Australia.
